SSCA follows the Responsive Classroom model, which focuses on student-centered classrooms, emphasizing the social and emotional development of the student, positive community, effective management, and developmentally responsive instruction.
Applications are rolling at Saint Saviour Catholic Academy, but the most popular time to apply is usually from the beginning of November. Once all application materials are on file, we usually set up interviews and/or Buddy Days for elementary and middle school students and Play Sessions for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Yes. Financial aid is offered through the Diocese of Brooklyn’s Futures in Education. SSCA also offers in-house tuition assistance, but families still need to apply to Futures in Education first.
SSCA has early drop off beginning at 7:30 as well as an after school program. Within the after school program, we offer enrichment programs. After school begins at dismissal time and ends at 6:00 p.m. There is a separate fee for each of these programs.
Yes. We offer Spanish from grades 2-8.
There are Smart Boards or Promethean Boards in all of our classrooms from K-8. SSCA has a 1:1 chromebook program for students in grades 6-8. Additionally, students in middle school use the Google classroom platform for assignments.
We offer a competitive and fun Robotics Program for 7th and 8th grade students who meet the criteria. The Robotics students meet in the early morning before classes begin. We compete with various city schools in the Citywide Robotics Competition. Band and chorus are also very popular early morning/after school enrichment activities. There is also CYO girls and boys basketball. SSCA also partners with the local YMCA to provide swim classes for 2nd grade students through their Swim for Life program as well as a physical education program for middle school students.
Our school is located just down the block from Prospect Park. Our students are able to enjoy outdoor activities in the park on a regular basis (weather permitting). Outdoor activities include physical education, science exploration for younger grades, etc. There is also a private play space for early childhood students as well as the Open Streets Initiative option.
SSCA offers Regents classes for Earth Science and Algebra I to 8th grade students who meet the criteria. Our scholastic program also focuses on enhancing the writing skills of the students as well as how to engage in effective online research, a skill that has become increasingly important in the world of higher education.
SSCA uses an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching of STEM.
Our graduates attend a broad array of high schools, both private and public. They have gone on to attend Catholic high schools such as Regis, Xavier, Xaverian, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Dominican Academy, Notre Dame and St. Saviour High School; specialized public high schools such as Brooklyn Technical High School, La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts and the highly competitive Beacon High School; and competitive private high schools in New York City. Many of our students have obtained either full or partial scholarships for the Catholic and independent schools to which they were admitted.
At SSCA, our very vibrant Parent Association hosts events such as a Welcome Back to School Picnic, Fall Festival, Breakfast with Santa, Ice Skating Night, Roller Skating Night, Annual Auction, and more. We also engage in community outreach with activities such as Christmas caroling and food collection drives for food pantries in Park Slope and neighboring communities, among other activities. SSCA also works with other nonprofit organizations in and around Brooklyn.
