Mr. Ted Stafford
Ted is a graduate of Oberlin College where he studied music while completing a degree with honors in Comparative Literature. From Oberlin, Ted moved to New York and settled in Park Slope, Brooklyn where he began his music career in a number of scrappy original rock bands and worked as a production editor in an educational publishing company.
With the birth of a son in 2001, Ted joined with Andrea Fixell to create Sign-a-Song: a Musical Introduction to American Sign Language, for which he wrote many songs, played thousands of classes, and recorded two CDs. Ted also co-designed the Sign-a-Song curriculum, and co-wrote Baby Signing, How to Talk With Your Baby in American Sign Language (Studio, 2006). After Sign-a-Song, Ted began teaching general music at Brooklyn Heights Montessori School and leading “Mommy and Me” music classes at Families First. He also began working as a light & sound technician at the world-famous Metropolitan Room. As a member of the cabaret duo “The Ted & Lo Show,” Ted won the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Award for outstanding duo or group in 2013 and 2015.
